On Thursday I went along to a talk by prolific illustrator Marion Deuchars at Brandhouse in Notting Hill, as part of the www.notinhouse.com series of lectures. I have been a fan of her work for a long time, and was especially keen to see her having heard from fellow Bread-sters Luke and Owen who had met Marion a couple of weeks ago at the Do Lectures (see http://thedailybread.co.uk/the-do-lectures-2012/).
Her latest book 'Let's Make Some Great Art' has won a D&AD yellow pencil. I was really pleased to finally purchase the book, and also the print which was especially designed for the event, and all the proceeds were for a charity of Marion's choice.
Marion's talk was really inspiring. In the short time that she spoke for, I came away with several points about creative work that resonated, such as: Have a messy table – leave your work/art materials out and accessible all the time. Move around, it's not healthy to sit in front of a computer. Draw more.
I aim to follow them!
