As we walk round the corner each morning we hold our breath, half expecting someone to have got to work with a spray can during the night. Luckily it remains untouched, for how long who knows, such is the nature of public art.
With most of the backgrounds completed we moved onto the fun stuff and using string we got back to basics marking out and painting the borders and geometrics.
These first 3 days have been frustrating at times due to the weather but one big plus has come from speaking to locals and passers-by. The overwhelming reaction to the project has been extremely positive. Most people seem grateful for any improvement that can be made to WPL and are all in agreement that it makes a nice change from the council’s continual white-washing of the walls. We were even given some free Pizza from the guys at the White Building, a new creative art space, micro-brewery and pizzeria-it was delicious!
The concept also seems to have been well received by the people we’ve met. Some of the older residents have even shared first-hand accounts of some of the products or factories depicted in the murals.
